How To Cancel Facebook

How to Cancel Service

Facebook is the world’s leading social network. While many people find they can connect with old friends, start new business ventures and promote small or large businesses on the network, other people find the drama associated with the service (and some friends) a bit too much to handle. Facebook is a free service, but there are paid offerings available from the site, so don’t expect to be able to cancel your Facebook account without at least a little pressure to stay connected from the Facebook team.

If you truly wish to cancel your Facebook account, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your Facebook account with your email address and password.
  • Click on the arrow in the upper right hand side of the screen beside the word Home.
  • Click on the Account Settings from the drop down menu.
  • Click on Security on the left hand side of the screen.
  • Click on the Deactivate Account button at the bottom of the paragraph.
  • Fill out the information Facebook requests and ignore the push to stay connected.
  • Click the Confirm button.

Your settings will be saved for some time after your Deactivation so you can choose to re-enable your account if you want to come back to Facebook at a later time.

Is There an Early Termination Fee?

There is no early termination fee associated with cancelling your Facebook account, but if you play Facebook games and have purchased tokens or other forms of game monies from companies like Zynga you will not receive a refund for these purchases. You will also forfeit any Facebook account credits you have.

Early Cancellation Policy

Facebook wants to keep you around because each user is worth money to the company shareholders, but there is no early cancellation policy in effect. Facebook cannot stop you from cancelling your account at any time and they cannot charge you fees associated with your free Facebook account. If you have a Facebook ad campaign, you may wish to contact Facebook before cancelling your account as there could be charges associated with that campaign.

Will They Work With Me to Avoid Cancel Fees?

Facebook will not help you cancel your account or avoid fees because there are no fees to be avoided. You will, however, notice Facebook does a pretty good job of trying to keep you active by telling you how many people will miss you if you choose to cancel your Facebook account.
